the gym 12.31.2007
I decided today to join a gym. I found a good special, and the kid's club is only $10 a month, so I figured I could stick a book on a treadmill and get study time in that way. I'm a little worried about my classes this semester, they're a bit harder than last semester I think.

Anyway, I've done some running and a lot of rollerblading since Marilyn was born, but I haven't lifted any weights. I went to a strength training class today and it seriously hurt to drive on the way home. I can't go up the stairs properly, and carrying Marilyn just isn't going to happen.

It's a good kind of hurt though, and I'm tired of being weak. I just don't have the motivation to do it at home, and Marilyn likes to get involved too. She had so much fun today though, she was very near tantrum level when it was time to leave, but I managed to distract her with a shoe hunt.

Oh, and Natalie Malan has posted yet another freebie on her blog, it's a calendar file for adding dates to your pages.

xmas 12.28.2007
Christmas eve was perhaps one of the most hilarious nights of my life. Marilyn knew something was brewing, and was a bit excited. She wasn't really sure what it meant when we put a bunch of presents under the tree, but she just couldn't leave them alone. All night long she was constantly rearranging them around the living room. We had present "choo-choo's", stacks on our laps, and piles everywhere. At some point we were tempted to just keep them wrapped forever; I don't think I've ever seen her so entertained. The next morning was time to unwrap. She still didn't quite get it, but did enjoy finding her hidden treasures. It took quite a while for her to unwrap them all as she didn't want to stop playing to unwrap. I have a feeling next year will be quite different :) In the afternoon Bill made egg nog, and we had friends over to share it. Can I just say yumm! That evening we skipped dinner completely as we had filled up on egg nog, and we spent the rest of the evening watching Mary Poppins. The next day I went to my parents. My sister was there with her adorable kids, and the house was just a little bit crazy! My nephews received little helicopter things, so they were constantly flying around the house. And the little ones were busy getting into stuff and taking toys away from each other. Good times were had by all, but I think were all ready to just chill for a while. I'm definitely ready to get started on my bonsai potato. (thanks dad!)

Have I mentioned how much I just love Natalie Malan? 12.23.2007
Cause if I haven't, it's time to. She's just the most awesome sweetest designer at pclayers.com. Anyway, she made an xmas kit that I just love, and she's doing a drawing on her blog for it, so be sure to stop by and leave her a comment. -----> Natalie's Blog Link

driving in the snow 12.20.2007
I used to be one of those people who complained about people who couldn't drive in the snow. Every time a snowstorm hit, I was out on the roads having some fun. Now is quite a different story. Maybe it's because I've got a different car, or I have a kid, or happen to live on a hill, but I avoid driving in it as much as possible.

When I went out to the store tonight it was raining a bit, but I didn't think anything of it. When I came out of the store it was snowing though. All was good until it was time to drive up the hill. It had a layer of black ice under the snow, and it was super slick. Partway up the hill was a minor accident, so traffic had slowed to almost a stop to go around it. This meant that I had no momentum to get up the hill, and I seriously thought I was going to have to get out and and walk home. Miraculously I made it up the hill and into my driveway.

Maybe I should get some chains...

a simple solution to automated phone solicitors 12.19.2007
Have you noticed that real people don't call anymore. It's always some automated voice named "Sarah" or "Dave with Dish". The phone calls always seem to come when the phone is on another floor, or you're in the middle of something important. Once you answer it, there's nothing you can do except hang-up.

Well, the other day I was really tired of receiving calls about my vehicle warranty expiring, so I pressed one to talk to a person. She happily removed me from the list, and also let me in on a little secret. If you dial 2, you'll be removed from the list automatically. I don't know if it works on all of them, but it has on the ones I've tried.

Just when I think I can breathe again... 12.16.2007
I logged on to my online classes just barely and my classes for next semester are already posted! I'm so not ready for this to start again, and I was at least hoping for one week off. They don't officially start, but how can I relax when I've already got assignments waiting for me!

back in the swing of things 12.15.2007
**** Bill, I don't think you read my blog, but if you do, don't read this post because your xmas present is mentioned.

I finished up all of my classes, but I wasn't really feeling that overjoyed. I think its because of everything else I have to do now, that I've been putting off. I've spent the past couple of days working on cream puffs though. I have a passion for cream puffs, and I can make a really good one. I made them for my neighbor friends this year. I'm really glad I finally got off my lazy butt and did something for them.

I live in one of those fantastic neighborhoods, where all the moms are warm and inviting and get together once a week for a playgroup. Marilyn has a ton of friends her age, and she just loves them. Another one of my friends, Nicole, has a scrapbooking group every week at her house. I bring my laptop over and everyone else does paper (although I am converting them slowly). It seems we spend most of the time chasing our children down, but it's fun and semi-productive anyway!

Anyway, I decided to do three batches of the cream puffs. I've never done so many at a time, and it has definitely been a chore, but I hope they are well liked. I ran out of cream and frosting though, so I'll have to finish them up tomorrow. Bill was really disappointed he couldn't have one! I'll post the recipe tomorrow when I can take a picture of a finished one. They're super yummy, I promise!

I also started wrapping presents. I honestly don't think I've wrapped anything in a couple of years. I've been doing the recycled gift bag thing. I'm not sure what posessed me to go with kraft (warning- Ikea craft wrapping paper is see-through) but I'm sticking with it. I just love the gift tags in Natalie Malan's sugar cookie kit. I also used it for my christmas card this year. I'm not actually mailing them out I decided, but I thought they'd be fun for the neighbors and family.

For Bill's Christmas present I decided to do his website for him. He's the type of person that's just not into material things, so there's no hope of finding anything he wants in a store. I was going to do if for my final project in my html class, but he was too busy to write all the content, so I just did my site instead. I think I'm just going to make a templateish type site, so we can add the content as he writes it, but the site will be there for the most part. I'm excited, and I don't think he's figured out that the semester is over yet, so I am still working on "homework" at night.

I'm officially feeling scrougy 12.12.2007
Is scrougy a word? I started out really into the Christmas spirit, but now I just want to take the tree down and get on with my regular life. There's just so much to do, and I'm down to the stuff I feel like I have to do, not the stuff I want to do. I love some aspects of the holidays, like pumpkin bars and wassail, but I'm just not into all the little gifty things. Don't get me wrong, I love giving gifts, I just wish they could be on my terms instead of the calendars. I feel terrible, I do. I have so many wonderful people in my life, and I really should enjoy making cookie platters and handmade gifts, but it's stressing me out!

My weekend 12.09.2007
I'm getting really creative with my titles now!

I did have a nice weekend though. I finished my 4x6 calendar set this weekend. I put it on my templates page as a free quick page set if you want it! I also wrote that paper I've been avoiding for the past two weeks. Okay, it's not done yet, but I just need to clean it up and it's not due until Thursday :)

Bill has also been out of town teaching paragliding, so Marilyn and I have just been chilling at home. We've had a great time playing in the snow, finger painting, and dancing to Christmas music. Her version of dancing is me swinging her in circles upside down and doing back flips which makes it great exercise for me.

Today I get to take the final for my html class, and then I'll be done with 2 of my classes. Can I just tell you how excited I am to be finished with this semester. I guess I'm not yet, but I'm close. I really needed to go back for school, if for no other reason than my sanity. I love turning in assignments, taking tests, and accomplishing things. Sick, I know, but as a sahm I don't often get to feel productive. After all, is housework ever finished?

I'm always amazed 12.08.2007
At what a 2 year old can do to a computer. I honesty don't have a clue how she's done some of the things she has. Today I let her play at kneebouncers.com and she managed to rearrange my google toolbar. This one just baffles me. You have to right click on the toolbar, choose customize, move the items around, and then press done. Now I can't get it back to normal either. There's not enough space for everything so my weather isn't showing. Oh dear, this is really going to bug me!

almost there 12.07.2007
Only one paper and two finals left until I'm done with the semester! It has actually flown by and it has been a lot of fun. A little hectic though... On Monday I'm going to have an awesome pclayers freebie on my blog, so be sure to stop by then:)

My parents the elves 12.06.2007
If you haven't seen this, take a look. It's hilarious! Here are my parents as elves.

Going to my parent's house! 12.02.2007
I'm so bad at preparing for little trips and things. I used to be a pro at it, until Marilyn came along. Back when Bill and I were long distance dating I had my system worked out, I even had a standing packing list, along with duplicates of all my toiletries and stuff.

Now it is a different story. I'm leaving tomorrow, and I have a sink full of dishes, laundry to do, and errands to run. Looks like it will be afternoon before I leave, oh well! I just can't seem to get moving.

Should be a lot of fun though, I just needed to get away a little. I'm going to help my mom out with her Christmas decorations (she's serious about decorating!). I'm also looking forward to some time with the fam. I've got a bit to take care of with school too. I'm still trying to get those two classes from 2004 on my transcript, and I'll probably meet with some professors too. I can't believe finals are next week!

It's almost 1am 12.01.2007
And I've finally uploaded the new site. I was getting tired of the old one, and for my html class we had to design a site for the final project. This is a little overkill for the assignment, but I had a lot of fun doing it. Let me know what you think! (Be honest- I'd love to know what I can do better.)
