my life story in 200 words or less

I was born in 1980 to the world's greatest parents. I made doll clothes out of my mother's expensive sheets and built huts in nearby fields out of scrap wood. I wasn't a great student until one day in 8th grade math when I figured out I was smarter than I thought I was. I played the viola, ran, and swam through high school, and I went away to college on a scholarship. I came back home one semester later though so I could help with my sister's kids. I continued my education at USU until I realized I didn't want to be an elementary school teacher. To "find" myself I went to NYC and everywhere else on the east coast until I ran out of money, and then I came back home and worked a lot. Even though I still didn't know what to do with myself, I went back to school. I dated a couple of fascinating people, discovered sailing and Jimmy Buffet, and worked the graveyard shift. A while later I learned to hang glide, and fell in love my instructor. I dropped out of school again and moved away from home, had a baby, and scrapbooked. I eventually finished my bachelor's degree 10 years after I started.

my scrapbooking story

I did my first bit of scrapbooking when I finished high school. My pages were horrid (think decorative scissors), but I finished an entire album about my life in a few weeks. I wasn't too proud of it though, so I hid it in a closet. I tried to redo a few pages here and there, but I just wasn't very interested.

In 2005 when I found out I was pregnant, I was working for a small printing company. As I was typesetting a business card one day, I realized I could scrapbook on the computer! I purchased an older version of Photoshop and played around a little. I did a few pages when my daughter was born, but they really weren't that impressive (except I still love my first page). My heart just wasn't in it. I was trying to scrap all my pictures, and I wasn't letting it be a creative outlet for me.

A few months after starting I bought myself Cathy Zielske's first book. I was so excited to see what scrapbooking could really be, and it changed my whole perspective. It's not about getting all the pictures scrapped, it's about having a hobby you enjoy doing, a creative outlet, and an album you love. I was still struggling a bit though, until one day when I thought to google "digital scrapbooking". For months I thought I had invented it, so I was shocked to find entire online communities dedicated to the art form. This was just the push I needed to get going, and within a couple of weeks I was addicted. I love scouring the internet for the coolest products, and I love working as a design team member at PC Layers.
